What you should know about The Australian Labor Party

It is about 30 years older than the Country Party and more than 50 years previous than the Liberal Party. Although these hasty labor parties were strongly biased by the trade unions, they were never confined to union membership and interests. Their earliest programs and platforms show that they sought the support of farmers, little businessmen and nonunion employees including clerical and other white collar workers. It was broad in appeal and lenient in aim, although this did not terminate its opponents from attacking it as extremist. The Collier government was reelected in 1927. She was the beginning Labor woman and second woman ever to be elected to an Australian parliament. He was the first person from WA to be Leader of the Federal Work Party. He leads Labor to triumph at the 1943 election on the basis of the government's war record. 1971: Labor was returned to government in WA under the leadership of John Tonkin. 1990: Carmen Lawrence became WA Labor leader and the first woman Premier in Australia.
