The term mineral sands’ refers to concentrations of minerals commonly found in sand deposits. Mineral sands deposits are characterized by their grade and relative proportion of precious compressed minerals components of zircon and titanium dioxide minerals including futile and ilmenite among others. Heavy mineral sands (HMS) deposits comprising unconsolidated sand in an area where the water table can be managed, are often capable to parched mining with thick earth moving equipment. With dry mining the ore is typically deposited into a mining unit or hopper, usually adjacent to the energetic mining area. Wet concentration produces a high grade dense mineral concentrate, maximizing the content of precious mineral sand whilst minimizing the amount of non valuable mineral. Subsequent wet processing the compressed mineral concentrate undergoes a number of parched processing stages to divide the cherished minerals and bear salable products. When such deposits enclose enough concentrations of precious thick minerals, principally zircon and titanium dioxide minerals, they are referred to as heavy mineral sand deposits.
