Services

A briefing note outlined those concerns and we sought encourage for a halt to any further outsourcing of medical typing services and bringing currently outsourced services back in house. Losing WA jobs to the Eastern States and overseas. Jobs and money will remain to be sent out of the state and possibly the country at a time of high unemployment and slowing economy. Employees from private providers tend to be insecurely employed, are not on appropriate union agreements and often paid at close to minimum wage (perhaps less if they are not qualified to claim adequate hours). Privacy tolerant information being emailed around the country or the world to private companies carries a much greater risks of privacy breaches. Cautious estimates have put the cost of outsourcing at the alike of 60 an hour, a directly employed medical typist earns approximately 32 an hour. This will be attended to at the first opportunity. The Greens trust that public services should be in public hands and therefore urge keeping medical typing services in house. We recognize that like maximum forms of outsourcing, cost savings are often overstated, workers are inevitably paid less and service quality is reduced. Additionally we concur with the HS that there are very real tolerant privacy concerns. If elected, WA Work will seriously consider the case for bringing back in house outsourced medical typing as portion of the normal budgetary process. Solemn funding shortfall in acute mental health services putting kids at risk. The Health Services Union (HSUWA) says transition of the Kid and Adolescent Mental Health Services (camps) as a result of the fresh Perth Children’s Hospital (PC), is shaping up as a disaster because of a serious shortfall in funding for a range of acute and specialized mental health services for children. Critical services will be cut, staff numbers significantly reduced and kids placed at risk. HSUWA Secretary, Dan Hill has slammed the funding debacle, and the lack of proper planning for the transition of young people’s mental health services to the fresh children’s hospital, and expressed concern at the increased risk to the young patients accessing these services. These are critical services that are being delivered to hundreds of children and adolescents that are already at a very tall risk of suicide, and staff are very apprehensive about the feasible consequences should the glossy of service be cut. It seems that they have spent all the money on a shiny new building and don’t have ample left to pay for all the health professionals who aid more than a 100 kids each year deal with acute mental health problems. Mr Hill also called on the Ministers’ for Health, and Mental Health to intervene, and to ensure that adequate funding was made available for the provision of these services.
